October 11, 2011Fall is a vibrant season full of rich color, crisp weather, and fun family activities. The farmers markets are full from Nature’s Bounty and it is time to stock up and enjoy the harvest.
Some cool ideas for this fall include:
Visit a Pumpkin Patch and Corn MazeA visit to a pumpkin patch will offer a full day of family fun. Kids will love having a whole patch to peruse for their own big, orange pumpkin to carve for Halloween! Plus, pumpkin patches often have fun extras like mazes made entirely of tall corn stalks and yummy fall refreshments like cider and apple pie!
Apple Picking
Fall is apple season and it’s the only time of year you can pick ripe apples right off the tree! This is a great way for families to get outside, get some exercise, and learn how this popular fruit is grown and harvested. Some orchards even let you grind your own apples into cider!
Take an Autumn Nature Walk
Crisp, cool air and beautifully colored leaves are special features of the fall season. Take this opportunity to get outside and take a closer look at nature. There are endless possibilities for a nature walk. Try having your kids pick up fallen leaves and attempt to identify the type of tree they fell from.
Comfort Food
Fall is here. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder and it’s the perfect time for some of these delicious fall comfort food. Getting flavor and comfort does not mean you have to sacrifice nutrition. Here are some great recipes with all the nutrients needed, which will keep you satisfied and comforted.
MAPLE PECAN BARS (my favorite)
1 Cup Herbalife formula 1 Vanilla
1 Cup Oatmeal
½ Cup peanut butter
½ Cup pure maple syrup
1-2 cap full maple flavoring
½ cup chopped pecans
- Mix all ingredients together
- Press into and 8×8 pan
- Cut into 8=pieces
- 1 bar = 1 Shake
PEANUT BUTTER PIE
1 cup Herbalife Formula 1 (vanilla or chocolate)
2 cups skim milk
1 pkg. white chocolate sugar free pudding
1 ready made Piecrust
¼ cup Peanut Butter
- Mix Formula #1 and milk together
- Add Peanut Butter
- Mix well
- Add pudding mix
- Pour into pie crust and chill for 1 hour
- When chilled, add light Cool Whip
- Cut into 8 equal pieces
Each piece equals 1 shake and 50 calories
